We regard the place of preaching very highly at New Covenant Baptist Church. The Bible instructs us:
“Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.” (1Ti 4:13 -16)
For this reason, our emphasis is not on debating the Word in small groups, but on declaring the Word when we come together. We believe the Word of God is to be the speaker, not man’s wisdom. For that reason we emphasise expository preaching – letting the text speak, verse by verse. We avoid anecdotal, narrative or ‘motivational’ preaching that merely uses the Scripture as a springboard for its own ideas.
All of our services give attention to the public proclamation and study of the Word.
